What is SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is high-tech laser-assisted liposuction that was developed to reduce recovery time and provide doctors with more precision to sculpt target areas on the body where excess fat needs to be removed. SmartLipo still makes use of a cannula and aspirator to suction fat out of the body, but laser technology makes it possible to melt the fat into a liquid form first, reducing the need for large diameter cannulas, ultimately making the entire liposuction procedure less traumatic.
If you have areas of excess fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise, this procedure may be a good choice for you. But some individuals may not be good candidates. As with any surgical procedure, there are always risks and SmartLipo is no exception. Though it is generally considered to be a low-risk procedure, it is important to be mindful of the potential for side effects and adverse reactions and discuss these with your doctor in advance. This is a procedure that is best suited for patients who are in good health overall and who exercise regularly. Ideally, patients should be within 25 to 30 pounds of their ideal weight. Most surgeons also recommend that patients have realistic expectations about what they hope to accomplish from the surgery.
There are other generations in use today including the original SmartLipo laser lipolysis system as well as next generation lipo technologies.
SmartLipoIt was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2006. The procedure involves the insertion of a small hollow tube about the size of pen into incisions at the target site to suction fat out of the body. This tube, known as the cannula has a small laser on the end of it which not only melts fat, but also causes blood vessels to coagulate (reducing bleeding and swelling). The laser acts as a guide for the surgeon as well during the procedure. Because fat cells are melted, a smaller tube can be used to remove the fat from the body, making the procedure less invasive and thus encouraging a faster patient recovery.
SmartLipo MPXThis second generation technology uses a high-powered dual wavelength laser to melt unwanted fat stores, but the lasers are simultaneously used to tighten the skin in target areas of the body. SmartLipo MPX generates dual wavelengths of laser beams that are calibrated to melt excess fat through the top layers of a patient's skin. The laser ruptures the fat cells, which makes it easy to remove the excess fatty deposits through remarkably small incisions at the target area. As with regular SmartLipo procedures, blood vessels are generally coagulated by the laser energy, minimizing bruising, bleeding, and swelling on treated areas of the body.
SmartLipo TriplexIn this case, triple laser lipolysis is used to increase the absorption of fatty tissues, blood vessel coagulation, and skin tightening. The procedure uses three separate wavelengths of energy, which sets it apart from the two preceding generations. SmartLipo Triplex is able to perform high definition sculpting of target areas on the body by giving surgeons more of an edge as they liquefy and remove excess fatty tissues.
There are a number of benefits over other liposuction procedures. Specifically, SmartLipo laser technologies can minimize bruising and bleeding by coagulating blood vessels. SmartLipo MPX and SmartLipo Triplex procedures also promote the tightening of skin over target areas of the body. Patients who elect SmartLipo techniques over other liposuction techniques can enjoy reduced recovery time and a precisely sculpted appearance.
Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery requested by patients today. SmartLipo is a liposuction procedure that promises benefits like decreased recovery time and more precise results that lead patients to seek out the treatment with greater frequency each year.
